I appear to have survived another relentless run up to christmas! This year all I managed to lose was my phone, as apposed to last year, when I lost my phone, my keys, my coat, my glasses and my wallet. I am currently relaxing in France with my family watching the snow out of the window and Marry Poppins on TV at least once a day. I'm here until January 3rd and back in London on the 8th. Happy New Year from gordonlangley.co.uk and see you all next year!

Lots of dj news this week and plenty to download for your ipods, phones and computers.

My old buddy from LA - DJ HENRI - is getting his work out there thanks to the internet with three new mixes for download - if you are a fan of house then you gotta check out his latest mixes here

Max Rocha has also been busy expanding his radio station...

For those of you new to podcasts, it's fairly simple. You can search "Solid State Radio" at Podcast Alley www.podcastalley.com and find the show there. That site can also direct you to applications that assist in downloading the mixes [and any other podcasts you may want] regularly. Click on subscribe and there you go! You just need to subscribe once, there rest are automatic. Max recommends using s iPodderX for Mac users.

Max has also a blog going on that will always contain playlists, commentary, happenings etc.
Check: http://solidstatela.blogspot.com

www.solidstatela.com is being updated to be the hub for it all. Keep checking back...

Now the stallion did cut a mix the other day - not nearly as polished as HENRY or MAX but it's here for download if you fancy something eclectic, mellow and silly. It's a bit of a whopper mind at 57megs and no play list... sorry.

It's rumored that sliced bread and the electric stallion AKA the emergency djs will be playing a party at the infamous evershot village hall sometime in january 2006... watch this space!

...and finally thank you to Gavin for sending me some site feedback.

"Leave the News section on the front page of your site I reckon. It gets people to go back to it. Well me anyway."

This week I've been having a great deal of fun editing a video for the Chelsea Children's Hospital SchoolNow these chaps really know how to animate! And their electronic tracks are simply brilliant. Check out their truly inspiring music tracks and animation here

However, the funniest thing I've seen this week, apart from hitting a bike head on while speeding down the canal at top speed and nearly getting in a fight is a film that Jo Radcliffe showed me one morning by a Mr James Brett. earthquake

The secret show is funny, but for reasons of security I'm not allowed to talk about that one.

Bum... not top of google any more - that was short lived!!

Tuesday, October 11, 2005

I'm No. 1 in the Google search parade! Sounds easy enough, you know, search your name and see if you get any hits... well I do! I get about 1,540,000 hits - but up until today, none of them were for me!!

Nearly all the other hits seem to be for Gordon Langley Hall, or Dawn Langley Simmons as she later became known, a bizarre story about a him/her/him character from the 1930's. The illegitimate son of two servants at Sissinghurst Castle, he became the unexpected recipient of an American heiress's millions. He went on to become an author, writing several biographies including that of Margaret Rutherford (Miss Marple). But then he surprised his contemporaries by moving to South Carolina, having a sex change, and reinventing himself as Dawn Langley Hall. The mystery deepened when Dawn married a young black mechanic in the racially charged atmosphere of South Carolina in the 1960s. Then she appeared in the streets of the town apparently pregnant and was seen several months later pushing a child in a pram!

Begs the question...

Is Gordon Langley a boy or a girl? Was he born with boy bits, or girl bits?

hmmm...

I just found out that you can buy the entire Horrible Histories box set DVD for £22.49 at amazon.co.uk. or here or here or here ... um, etc.

Why do I care? Because I designed and directed it!! And it's in the bargain bin already!! Oh and guess what, another amazingly empty filmography!

Check out the scrap book here. More scribbles and pics to come.

And here's what some of the crew are up to now...

Andrew Young - CO-Director
Went on to create the maddness that is Pet Aliens with Jeff Muncy

Charlie Stickney - Producer
I think Charlie has got married with six children and narrowly got his big break when he was asked to play the lead role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Not only is Charlie called Charlie, but he is an actor and he likes chocolate, and he is the absolutely spitting image of Gene Wider!

Miss Lauren Gardiner - Chief Character designer
Now running here own publishing company The infamous Tight Sweater Press with her partner in crime the luscious Nina Bays.

I miss everybody on the crew. Happy days G:] If anyone has got links for the missing crew then send them my way!

p.s. sorry lauren, for saying I was sick when actually I went skiing!

Studio six has been a hive of activity whilst I have been away secretly animating. Yes Mr S has built himself a brand new website. Wow and Fantastic! It's great to see his work online, very easy to get around and heaps to look at. However, you really need to see his work up close, on the wall, in the gallery, or better still - in your own home to get a full appreciation of the craftsmanship and beauty of his pieces.

Be the first to check out his beta site HERE

Jimi is particularly powerful, if I had a wall big enough - I'd buy it.

'Jimi' 62 x 69 cm, mixed media collage on board.

See Mr Alexander's work up close at the APART gallery in West London.

THE PRIVATE VIEW - is a brand new comedy short, Produced and Directed by Dorset's best kept comedy secret, Miss Lemon Bade Otter.

'81 Fortuneswell' is a brand new gallery owned and run by Fallopia Fossett-Spong [played by Lemon Bade]. Funded by a huge inheritance following the tragic death of her entire family - two days ago, Fallopia has bought a gallery, learnt how to paint and is about to make a big splash in the British Contemporary Art scene.

Fallopia invites her closest 'artist' friends to exhibit their work alongside her own, with the promise of at least five billion really important VIP's.

The film [a fly on the wall documentary] takes place on the opening night of the gallery, with exhibitions held by various artists - Including painting, sculpture, photography, music, dance, physical theatre and poetry.

The fun starts when Marion, the man from the 'newspaper' shows up late and soon discovers that he may well be the only guest.

Filmed on location in one night with no script and three crates of out of date wine. "The Private View is probably going to the be the funniest film I've worked on this year... however, I would have liked to do a few more stunts."

- The Electric Stallion

"My favourite way to make a comedy... is to invite a few select friends over to my place, fill them full of alcohol, pass around a video camera and tell them, whatever happens - stay in character... and oh, all talk at the same time, please. "

I don't think much of my filmography! Funny, because it was channel 4 that commissioned my first ever film and gave me my directional debut, I've been meaning to get that film online for a while now. So, here I am - in a big list, but as someone who does and has made - nothing - hmmm.... What about my Evel knievel films, eh?? eh... This year's family picnic organised by the lovely Sarah Langley was a huge success and best of all... it didn't rain!

Inspired by our friend and fellow emergency dj - sliced bread - jed, this is the second annual family picnic to be held at the victoria park in bath. It's a great opportunity to get together and point and giggle at our extended family members. Joseph Trudgeon was our official photographer for the day and you can see his pictures here. If anyone would like to suggest any captions, then please drop me a line here

Thank you to everyone who made the effort to come and for making it such a special day.

EMAIL OF THE WEEK...

From: Natasha Hamilton To: Chicken Boy
Subject: RE:VIEW

The Electric Stallion: Unbridled
Running time: 5 years
Rating: @@@@@

Less than a year has passed since we all cheered at a horrendously put together demo by the electric stallion as he romped along the final furlong with 'no, you are gay' , but now it's time for another ambitious release from the lonesome beard who is named after a horse. And no, before you ask, it's not 'Mr Ed'.

Jumping into the saddle is Gordon Langley, at age 5000 something of a late developer on the Grand National's A-list circuit. He was, of course, catapulted into top-bill status by his collaboration with the loop fantastic - but now it's make or break time for this desert horse. Does he really have the pulling power and presence to hold his own as a serious big-namer with tracks that are part Whitney Housten and part Wacky races? His ego is certainly ready and with tunes such as  'me, me, me'   his chance to shout "Yes!" is at hand.

I had the misfortune of catching the electric stalllion live with the emergency djs in Evershot last month, where he tested  Unbridled on a disinterested audience. A half hour into his set and I was already cutting the concrete on the dance floor and getting funny looks for clopping about on the wild, untamed mustang of the electric stallions base spins.

Unbridled  as an album for the most part works surprisingly well. In-between evading the dirty tricks of his Dick Dastardly-like opponents the stallion scrubs your brain with lavenda and dusts your feet with DJ Henry's bling bling.

All in all it's an enjoyable, if bumpy ride, with some smashing sparingly-used sample loop effects and an entertaining baseline.

It's Got: A  wild mustang with a power drill .
It Needs: Some dressage.

Check out the electric Stallion's latest beats here

or make you own remix using Gavin Morris' amazing BEAT JIGSAW

SO a couple of months ago this bloke Gavin Morris moves to West Chelborough and all of a sudden I’ve got barmy inventor living in the next village who designs fantastic [and probably useless] marvelous interactive machine things.

He invited me to the launch of his new ‘boredband’... Coconut Shy at SUBMERGE a couple of weeks ago and I must say it was brilliantly entertaining.

Mr Morris is currently developing a HUGE fairground which he intends to tour the world with!!

Another rather splendid machine called the BEAT JIGSAW that plays musical loops by moving wooden blocks around, can now be played with online.

I see some ridiculous calibrations coming your way in the distant not too near future.

9th World Stinging Nettle Eating Championships 2005.

Now, I might not have actually won this year's competition...

Actually, I've never eaten a single nettle in my entire life and I wasn't about to start. However, I was there in the competition circle as first assistant butler [and chief umbrella holder] to Natasha Hamilton and Jo Charter who went on to eat a whopping 22feet of nettles.

Yes I am proud to announce that Jo Carter of the BOOT in Weymouth, is officially this years...

WORLD LADIES NETTLE EATING CHAMPION!!

The Emergency DJ's host this year's Evershot street fair!!

Yes, resident Emergency DJ's, Sliced Bread 'Jed' and 'The 'Electric Stallion' compared this year's event and thanks to Sarah Langley, LIVE music was at the heart of the festival once more.

The day was a great success raising £5,000 for the village.

Highlight of the day had to be the Three Daft Monkey's performance outside the bus shelter and of course Jed, calling out the winning bingo tickets.
